The idea for Harlan’s Trim-it-Quick lighting was born of frustration. Year after year, Leslie Wasem would agonize over the process of untangling Christmas lights, testing and then painstakingly positioning them just right, only to find that one strand doesn’t work. She figured there must be a better way to go about lighting Christmas Trees.
That’s when she decided to make Trim-it-Quick Christmas Lights – a brilliant system in which each branch would have its own light strand. It would eliminate so much of the hassle, be easier to store and look worlds better. After overcoming many challenges, Trim-it-quick was ready to go mainstream.
When Trim-it-Quick asked me to help them with their website, I was excited about it. They had already developed a brand and packaging with Ashley Lippard at www.ashleylipparddesign.com and they wanted a website that would match the look and feel of the rest of their brand. The brand was a little bit eclectic with a unique vibe and we wanted to carry that feeling over into the website.
The look that we eventually went with was what looked like a paper doll cut-out set. It looked like that because that’s exactly what it was. The paper figures were drawn and compiled into different paper set scenes, those scenes were photographed and then those photographs were turned into a website.
We also created several demonstration videos and a shopping cart system that matched this paper cut out look and tied it together so that it would be a seamless transition from educating people on the product to purchase of the product.
Since that time, Trim-it-Quick has upgraded their site to be in better compliance with changing technology, but you can see the original site here: Paper Doll Website
